Antigona- Agia Saranta- Paw traveller |
In the post "On PAWS across Pelion Peninsula- part one" we wrote about amazing beauty of the village of Xinovrisi, nestled in the southeast part of Pelion in which we were located - that is the side of Pelion overlooking Skiathos Island and the northern Sporades.
Here are some more impressions from this journey...
During our stay, we explore this beautiful peninsula from Chorefto, near which you will find the magical Agia Saranta beach with its incredible blue water in a combination of sand and fine white pebbles, all the way to Volos, large and modern city with a beautiful coastline.
The nature of Pilion is phenomenal, and this peninsula is adorned with some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece such as Milopotamos beach. This beach is very famous so it can be crowded.
The beach is beautiful, with golden sand and white pebbles.

Pelion beaches will satisfy everyone's taste!
Whether you're looking for entertainment and cocktail bars or want to enjoy a little more privacy, organized or not, with rocks or sand - you'll find it all at Pilion.

But you should know that Pelion is quite different from the places of mainland Greece like Sithonia and Halkidiki in general. There is not so much bustle on the streets, souvenir shops, boutiques...etc

It doesn't even have a decent beach, it is more something like concrete docks with small stretches of sand.
But, don't let this fact to spoil your impression, because before entering Milina there is a small Olive beach- very lovely beach right next to an olive grove.
The water is clean and clear, and the beach has natural shade, so this beach can be an alternative if you are located in Milina.
Afissos is also a small, pretty town in Pagasitikos Bay. There are several well-organized beaches where you will find plenty of bars for all-day entertainment.

Here you can enjoy good and well-prepared food at affordable prices, and swim in shallow, warm waters at the same time.

I also recommend visiting Mourtia Beach.
This beach is not organized, but it is a true pearl of nature with shallow clear waters and interesting rocks forming a semicircle.
All in all, for visiting and exploring all the beauties of Pilion you will need a car.

These villages with lovely stone houses that peeks through the lush vegetation, beautiful old churches with bell towers, springs, stone bridges and well marked walking paths are true gems that offer opportunities for relaxation and fun in harmony with nature.
You will not find crazy parties on Pelion, and it looks like it is made for those who want to enjoy a peaceful but active holiday.
Pelion is for those who likes long walks, hiking through unspoiled nature and like swimming in the crystal clear waters.
Pelion is for all those who want to indulge in a slow life lifestyle, to enjoy afternoon siesta and traditional Greek food.

This was really great trip through a really different Greece, and I'm pretty sure we will be back to this beautiful area someday in future.
