All the shades of turquoise- LEFKADA

Lefkada- an incredible beauty that needs to be explored

Lefkada, Porto Katsiki- Paw traveller
Lefkada is about 1000 km far away from Belgrade.
The road to it is not complicated and can be crossed in one piece, but we decided to split this time into two parts, and take a break in Kalambaka and tour the Meteoras.

This move was great because the Meteoras are a place to be seen and experienced.

Considering that it was just for one night, we decided to choose very affordable accommodation in Kalambaka, at the foot of Meteoras, Sofia rooms.
The hosts are extremely friendly, the room is clean, well equipped, and the yard is nicely decorated with garden furniture.

The accommodation is next to the main road and extremely easy for finding.
Near the accommodation there is a supermarket "Lidl" where you can buy everything you need.

From this accommodation you can walk to the center of Kalambaka where you will find cafes, restaurants, fast food and souvenir shops.

Meteoras creates really surreal landscape, truly unique, with massive rocks reaching to the sky and breathtaking Meteora monasteries.

The time here do not passing by and everything looks like it was a hundred years ago. As you stand on top of some of the rocks you will surely understand why the monks found their refuge right here.

Curving roads connect these six monasteries and are accessible by car, but one of the most fascinating ways to tour the Meteoras is to hike through this fantastic landscape.
We toured the Meteoras at dusk and the scenes at the sunset was like a fairy tale, and we also repeated the tour in the morning before leaving to Lefkada.

Lefkada- Paw traveller
Lefkada has beautiful landscapes with hills and mountains covered with dense vegetation, endless beaches, paradise turquoise waters and magnificent vertical lofty cliffs.

We visited Lefkada twice, in June and September.
First time we have been situated in the west of the island in the village Tsokulade at villa Timoklia, and second time in the east in the small town Nikiana at Studios Fraxi.

My recommendation to travelers would be west coast of the island, which is more wild and in my opinion nicer, and on this side are the most beautiful and famous beaches of Lefkada.

Kathisma- Paw traveller
As we mentioned, we booked accommodation on the west side at villa Timoklia in Tsokulade, which is situated in a quiet environment and has beautiful view of the Ionian sea.
The apartment is well equipped and Timoklia and her family are fantastic hosts who have made every effort to provide us with all the comfort and make us feel like we are at home.

Tsokulade is a small village with a shop and a bakery. There is no promenades or something that looks like the center of the village, but the capital Lefkada is only a ten-minute drive away, so you can always get in the car and go to the city for a walk.

Egremni- Paw traveller
The capital Lefkada is nice and modern city with a beautiful city center, all kinds of shops, bars, restaurants and large marina.
Here you can walk along the streets between the main square and the harbor, buy some souvenirs in many shops and have a nice coffee break and a great choco pie.

The closest beach to Tsokulade is Pefkoulia Beach, and within a few minutes drive is Agios Nikitas - a picturesque fishing village on the coast that has retain its traditional natural beauty and charm.

Lefkada beaches are something that must be seen

The unreal and exotic beauty of Egremni beach will delight you, and its unreal shades of blue waters will definitely enchant you. Unfortunately, the dramatic earthquake that hits Lefkada in 2015 has changed the entire area on the southwest of the island, including this beach.

Egremni- Paw traveller
When we first time visited Egremni, the beach was accessible from the mainland with its more than 350 steirs, and on our second visit it was accessible only from the sea. This beach is still one of the most beautiful and picturesque in Greece, so do not miss opportunity to visit it.

Another beautiful, long and wide beach is Porto Katsiki, located on the southwest coast of Lefkada. This is a beautiful place with magnificent white cliffs and crystal clear turquoise waters, and the scenery when you look from the top of the cliff is truly striking.

Porto Katsiki- Paw traveller
Thanks to its turquoise waters and charming scenery Porto Katsiki is one of the best beaches in Greece.
The beach is composed of glittering white sand and fine pebbles. It is well organized and you can rent deck chairs and sunbrellas.
At the top of the cliff there is parking where you can leave your car.

Don't forget to bring drinking water and a hat to protect you from the sun, as you have to walk about 100 steirs to reach this beach.

Agios Ioannis- Paw traveller
Agios Ioannis - a beach very well known to all kite and windsurfers. Nice place, windy!

Agios Ioannis beach is the closest to town of Lefkada, which is only a few kilometers away.
This beach is about 3 km long and is surrounded by golden sand and blue green waters.

The beach is well organized with deck chairs and umbrellas facing the beautiful sea.

At Agios Ioannis beach you will also see old windmills lined up along the coast that give this beach a special stamp.

Kathisma- Kathisma Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Lefkada. It is located on the west coast, a short drive south of the village of Agios Nikitas. The road to the beach is good and there is parking area where you can leave your car.
The beach itself is sandy with crystal clear waters and has sunshine all day long. It is organized with umbrellas and deck chairs and there are also many beach bars where you can sit and enjoy.

Milos- Paw traveller
Pefkoulia is very beautiful beach, long, with impressive turquoise waters. On the left side of the beach there are cafes and it is organized so you will find deck chairs and sunbrellas, while the right side of the beach has no infrastructure. In both parts the coast is covered with pebbles and sand.

Milos- Milos beach is located near the village of Agios Nikitas and can be reached on foot or by taxi. We decided to go walking and the footpath starts next to the one cafe- there is a sign that shows way to the beach. The trail leads over a small hill and the climbing is not much demanding.
The walk takes about twenty minutes but it is worth it because when you reach the top of the hill you will enjoy the beautiful view and you will understand why Milos is proudly presented as one of the best beaches on Lefkada Island.

Mikros Gialos- Paw traveller
The beach is sandy and the sea bottom is also filled with sand, and the turquoise colors of the Ionian Sea are amazing on this beach as well. Milos beach is not organized, so bring with you everything you need.

Mikros Gialos, pure,
clear, green-blue waters and fine pebbles on the coast. The beach is located in a small bay with calm waters which makes this beach ideal for young children.
The beach is organized, with sunbrellas and deck chairs, and there are also few tavernas.

Megali Petra- Paw traveller
Megali Petra- A phenomenal beach with crystal clear waters, sand and huge rocks that looks beautiful. Great for swimming and snorkeling.

Because of the rocks and the difficult access it is not very suitable for very young children, but these large rocks that just lying around are really something special that you cannot see on other beaches on the island.

If you want to eat well after all adventures you expirienced on Lefkada, visit Sivota. You won't go wrong whatever restaurant you choose, but our recommendation is the Odysseia Tavern.

Dimossari waterfalls- Paw traveller
During our stay we also visited Dimossari waterfall which is located near Nidri, and it is one of Lefkada's main tourist attractions. The walk takes about half an hour in one direction, and when you approach the waterfall there is a bit of climbing along the rocks.

The path to Dimossari waterfalls leads through lush vegetation and ends in a gorge full of white rocks.
For me, this was a really nice walk that was worth all the effort and a great photo opportunity.

Dimossari waterfalls- Paw traveller
We went in September, out of high season and it wasn't crowded with tourists, which is great. Although it was autumn, there was water, so the waterfall was spectacular during this period as well.

Leflada is a beautiful island and if you haven't already visited it, it deserves to be on your future travel list.

8 affordable accommodations on your favorite destinations in Greece

Paw traveller Planning a holiday on your own can be a hassle for someone and a challenge and joy for someone else.  We have been traveling for years by finding accommodation on our own , asking questions directly to the accommodation providers and negotiating prices. Long time ago we choose this method primarily to find exactly what we needed, and also because of the fact that the Paw traveller group is made up of two four-legged travellers, which we do not always but often take with us on holidays. If you are also taking your furry friend with you, read the post  Responsible Guest- May your DOG recommend you? In this search for the perfect accommodation that will satisfy specific taste of your hairy companion, the   Pet friendly map of Greece  may also be helpful. In this post we present you affordable accommodations with links where we stayed and were satisfied with the price/quality ratio.
