Kiparissia, its beaches and the phenomenal Divari (Golden beach)
Paw traveller- Kiparissia |
Kiparissia is beautiful coastal town, located in the western part of Messinia on the Peloponnese.
It is a modern city and agricultural and commercial center.
In the surrounding area of Kiparissia you will see, of course, endless olive groves, beautiful turquoise waters of the sea, magnificent castle on the hill and many more places of inexhaustible natural beauty.
All of this together creates unique scenes that will enchant every visitor who comes to the beautiful Messinia.
In Kiparissia you can walk through the picturesque traditional streets and enjoy, or spend the day on its sandy beaches, which, in except to tourists, are the refuge to turtles Caretta-Caretta.
Paw traveller- Kartela beach |
Kiparissia has two beaches, Kartela and Ai Lagoudis.
The beach we found first, following navigating instructions, was Kartela. We found ourselves in wonder because the beach was without visitors. Completely empty!
We sat for almost one hour without anyone showing up at the beach. Just when we thought it must have been announced on radio and tv that some unnatural sea monsters were lurking out of the water, a cyclist came across and kindly explained to us that the main event is on Ai Lagoudis Beach.
The first one, beach Kartela, is long, covered with sand and pebbles, and has natural shades on it. You can leave the car on the road just above the beach.
Kartela is not organized beach, so bring your necessities with you.
Paw traveller- Ai Lagoudis beach |
The second beach is Ai Lagoudis and it is the main beach of Kiparissia.
It is within walking distance of the city center, on the beautiful sandy coast and has crystal clear water. There are rocks in the water at the end of the beach so it can be interesting for fans of snorkeling.
Ai Lagoudis Beach is a tourist paradise, organized, with a nice beach bar, sunbrellas and deck chairs, and a volleyball court that is set just a few meters from the water. On this beach you can also leave your car on the road above the beach.
After taking full advantage of this beach, you can continue along the sea to Filiatra, village we mentioned in the first post and remember because of its Eiffel Tower, then across Marathopoli and Navarino to the phenomenal Divari beach.
Paw traveller- Divari |
Divari beach is a huge expanse of fine golden sand that stretches from the village of Gialova to Paleokastro hill.
As the beach is very large and long there is space for everyone. There is no crowds, and if you want you can have complete privacy.
The water is incredibly shallow and calm on this beach which makes it ideal and safe for young children.
If you are arriving by car, there are many small extensions along the road where you can park.

You can also explore this beach and its surroundings riding a bike that you can rent before entering the area.
You can also walk through the Gialova lagoon to the famous Voidokilia Beach (about 20 minutes on foot), or if you are in a good shape, climb the hill to Paleokastro- the ruins of Frankish fortress from a thirteenth-century (about 45 minutes on foot).
Wonderful Messinia really has a lot to offer, and what you can see and visit is the best to discover for yourself.
This region with long and warm summers, beautiful sea, unending olive groves, vineyards and citrus trees is truly one of the most beautiful parts of Greece, and its traditional villages with hospitable inhabitants are something to be visited and experienced.
