Githio, Peloponnesian poem in pastel shades

Gitio- Paw traveller Pastel houses that looks as if someone needled them into the hill of Koumaros, a love scandal that sparked the Trojan War, beautiful beaches where Caretta Caretta turtles find refuge, great food, and even better wines... This is Gitio! Peloponnese is perfection of nature and its settlements have that special, natural, and almost boring Mediterranean everyday lifestyle. But, its part called Mani, covered with picturesque villages and some of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, is truly something extraordinary. Gitio- Paw traveller Gitio is a small port town hidden in this region, but also the largest city on the Mani peninsula, and in ancient times it was the main port of Sparta. This small town still keeps the old charm and is not overly visited by tourists, so it is the perfect place if you want to experience real Greece and everyday life . The first thing you will see when you come here is a long promenade along which are amphitheatrically crammed ho

Jamas! Tastes of Greece - Mavrodaphne wine

If your trip takes you to the Peloponnese and you're also a fan of sweet dessert wines, Mavrodaphne is something you definitely have to try, because there is more than a century of history behind this wine. Paw traveller Back in 1859, Gustav Clausse , a representative of the Bavarian company Fels&Co, settled in Achaia, and his initial idea was the cultivation of black currants.  However, he built a summer house in this area and planted vines as a hobby. He turned this hobby into a business and already in 1861 he opened the Achaia Clauss winery , from which the wine "Mavrodaphne" comes to us. The first bottling of this sweet dessert wine was made in 1873, and the magical recipe for its preparation was recorded and preserved to this day in Clauss' recipe book on page 601 . Gustav named this wine after a beautiful, black-haired and black-eyed girl from Patra called Daphne, which gives  a charming and romantic tone to  this wine story. Mavrodaphne is produced from gra

The Peloponnese, Deep Mani- A peninsula of warriors, towers, and the winding road to hell

Ohhh, Mani! Those are the stone towers, the proud Maniots, and the "gate" that leads to Hades... Mani- Paw traveller Mani is a peninsula in the southernmost corner of Southeast Europe. Its unique beauty, unreal landscapes, and rich history make this destination a must-see for all lovers of real Greece, and travelers looking for places unspoiled by mass tourism. Rough at first glance, but at the same time enchanting, with stone houses and towers that looks more like small fortresses, churches, and hidden bays that are not only worthy of a travelogue because Mani cannot be described, Mani must be felt and experienced . Deep Mani - one of the most isolated regions Mani- Paw traveller Deep Mani  has been one of the most isolated regions in Greece for a long time, and here you will find unreal and magical places such as Areopoli , Gerolimenas , Vathia , Porto Kagio, and Marmari , but also the southernmost part of the Balkan Peninsula, Cape Mattapan , which separates t

Argolis, The Peloponnese Region - A peninsula wrapped in the scent of citrus fruits

If this peninsula was a fruit, it would be citrus without a doubt... Karatona- Paw traveller Argolida, those are endless plantations of mandarins, oranges, and lemons, rich cultural and historical heritage, and clean sea! Our first week in this part of the Peloponnese region was reserved for Assini, a small town on the Argolis whose choice was crucial because of its proximity to Nafplio , a small town about which we had heard and read the most beautiful things. Maybe we expected too much from Argolis and Nafplio itself, so when we arrived there, the excitement was absent, and we didn't experience it sensationally. But to avoid any confusion, I must say that Nafplio does not lack beauty and charm! Nafplio- Paw traveller It is actually a charming town with narrow stone-paved streets where the Venetian influence is clearly expressed in the architecture. It is also adorned by three fortresses, Akronafplion from the 4th century BC, Burtzi built by the Venetians, and Palamidi from 1711

Traveling by car with a dog? Yes, definitely!

If you're just one of those two-legged who can't leave their lovable furry friend behind when they go on their next trip we will help you keep your dog happy and healthy on the road. Paw traveller At the very beginning, let it be known that we contribute to your peace of mind and overall happiness, so we really see no point in losing some of that zen feeling if your furry friend can't accompany you on the adventures that travel brings. The two of us frequently travel by car and often travel thousands of kilometers, so we consider ourselves experienced enough to give advice on this topic! We are small and this doesn't apply to the two of us as the windows are out of our reach, but... keep your head and paws inside! Our furry friends enjoy it when their head sticks out of the window , but this is not really recommended because it can cause an ear infection or expose the peeking traveler to a cold, so instead of enjoying the beach, they will rush to the vet stations and g

Jamas! - Tastes of Greece - RETSINA wine

Retsina - a Greek wine with a long tradition which is mainly produced from Savatiano, a not very well-known grape variety characterized by an extremely high percentage of sugar in the grape seed. Paw traveller Retsina is a wine that people have been drinking since ancient times. S ince they did not have cooling methods they used resin to seal the amphorae in which they kept the wine, which resulted in the authentic and unusual taste of this drink. Although Greece today produces exciting wines from Asyrtiko, Xinomavro, and other grape varieties, there are still growers throughout central Greece with large Savatiano vineyards and a market for retsina -   the wine produced from it. This wine is characterized by the fact that it is produced with the addition of pine resin during fermentation, which gives it a strong and specific smell and taste. Retsina wine is not expensive and it is worth trying, especially since it is rare in our area, but there is no guarantee that you will like the

Montenegro - Hidden beauty between water and stone

When you say Montenegro, most people think of summer, Budva, Herceg Novi, Kotor, and other famous places, but if you thought that the best thing that Montenegro has to offer is only the coast, think again! Skadar Lake- Paw traveller Looking for places where nature is simply nature, fascinating and beautiful on its own, we tend to fantasize about faraway exotic destinations, imagine the vast Argentinean pastures, the rugged landscapes, or the layered mountains of Winnikunka, and often forget that beautiful and unique places can be found much closer than it seems to us. If you know how to enjoy life, you will find beauty in all the places you stay long enough, no matter how small and often completely uninteresting at first glance. One evening, completely unplanned, we also found such an ordinary but beautiful place that we decided to travel for one week. The choice fell entirely by chance on Gornji Sustaš, a small village at the foot of Rumija .  We found accommodation in this village i
